Feed birds • Take cuttings of Forsythia, Pussy Willow, and Winter Jasmine to force inside • Plant some paper whites for inside blooms


February
Feed Birds • Prune Roses Presidents Day • Fertilize Trees and Shrubs • Prune summer flowering shrubs • Plant onions


March
Plant shrubs, trees, and perennials • Plant cold crops like lettuce, peas, potatoes, broccoli, etc. • Cut ornamental grasses to 6 inches • When Forsythia blooms apply crabgrass control to lawns • Get Purple Martin house ready


April
Plant summer flowering bulbs • Over seed lawns • Fertilize lawns • Plant pansies, and cold tolerant annuals • Get hummingbird feeders cleaned and ready

May
Prune early flowering shrubs like Forsythia, - Apply lime to Hydrangea to make pink and Aluminum Sulfate to turn blue • Plant annuals in ground and containers


June
Plant tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, and other heat loving vegetables • Stake taller annuals and perennials- Take house plants outside


July
Check plants for insect damage • July 4th prune Chrysanthemums to 2 to 3 inches • If watering containers heavily fertilize weekly


August
Deadhead summer flowering perennials • If your lawn browns that is normal • Plant fall blooming crocus • Water all newly planted plants if drought

September
Early in month plant Cole crops for fall • Bring house plants inside and make sure you treat for insects • Start feeding birds as they are preparing for migration


October
Plant trees, shrubs, perennials, and winter pansies • Plant spring flowering bulbs like daffodils, tulips and hyacinths • Plant ornamental cabbage and kale • Prune all late flowering shrubs


November
Transplant trees and shrubs, Apply dormant oil to fruit trees and any plants that developed scale this season • Cover strawberries • Drain hoses • feed birds


December
Continue to feed birds • look through catalogues and gardening magazines for new plants • oil and sharpen tools
